The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia and his wife Ms Susie Annus today visited BREC as part of the Governor’s first official regional visit to Bunbury and Greenbushes this week.
The Governor and Ms Annus were offered a tour of the South West’s award-winning performing arts venue and its state-of-the-art conferencing facilities by BREC’s Chair Simon Jacob, Cr Brendan Kelly and BREC Executive Director, Fiona de Garis.
“It is clear they have a keen interest in the role that arts and culture can play in building community in Western Australia, so it was a pleasure to introduce the Governor and Ms Annus to some of BREC’s current programs supporting young creative people and assisting local artists in developing sustainable careers,” said Mr Jacob.
- “BREC plays an incredibly important role in developing the creativity of young people in our region and BREC offers many different ways for them to continue that engagement with the arts throughout their life.”
The Governor and his wife took centre stage in the venues premier Stage One Theatre for an afternoon tea with a recital on BREC’s Steinway Concert Grand by local pianist and WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod contestant, Mr Josh Jacob.
The Governor and Ms Annus met with Life Member of BREC Jill Lyn, BREC Volunteers Nan Martella, Pat Smart, Peter Elderfield, Jill Lynn and Kelvin Carmichael, as well as co-founder of PVI Collective Steve Bull and local performing artist and director Vahri McKenzie.
The Governor’s Regional Visit Program enables the Governor to continue to develop a good working knowledge of the State and to engage with and acknowledge local government representatives, volunteers, school students, and many other people that make up the fabric of our rural communities.
