The next six months at the City of Bunbury will see a slew of projects, events and activities start the year off with a bang.
A virtual reality experience at the Bunbury Visitor Centre, CBD free WiFi, completion of the Sport and Recreation Strategy, smart phone waste app completion of lighting and drainage projects at Hay Park are just some of the exciting projects planned for the beginning of 2019 in the City of Bunbury.
The City will also reveal its preferred location for the highly anticipated Youth Precinct and the results of the recent Glen Iris community consultation.
A series of road improvements have also been earmarked for the beginning of the year including the widening of Estuary Drive and installation of a shared path, widening and resealing of Jeffrey Road and the completion of the Jubilee Road footpath. Washington Avenue will also see its cycle ways completed.
The City will be continuing its upgrading of lighting throughout the CBD with LEDs replacing the older infrastructure. A number of ageing and outdated City facilities will continue to be upgraded and maintained.
The Stirling Streets Arts Centre development will be a step closer to fruition with the tender being presented to Council and awarded over the next few weeks. Another tender which will be awarded soon will see the animal care facility at the Bunbury Wildlife Park built before the end of the financial year.
The old City works depot site at Nutsyia Avenue will be demolished and upgrades to Hay Park have already begun.
Upgrading the Leschenault Inlet sea wall is set to begin.
Major events – funded and supported by the City – include the Dolphin City Festival, Bunbury Fringe Festival, Groovin the Moo, Bunbury Chinese New Year Festival, Action Sports Games, Bunbury Geographe Gift, South West Multicultural Festival.
The annual Grant Funding Program which opens in April will see more events added to the 2019/2020 calendar.
The City will also host its own events – SkyFest on 26 January, SHIFT Youth Festival in April and Grandfamilies Fun Day on 17 April.

- Biennial Community Perception Survey – a chance for the community to comment on City services
- February Budget review
- Fibre connection to Withers Community Library and South West Sports Centre
- Installation of five new CCTV cameras in the CBD
- Installation of digital signage – locations still to be confirmed
- Year two of the Noongar Arts Program in partnership with Edith Cowan University

- Dog exercise areas review
